Garage door how-to and troubleshooting

My garage door won't close and the light blinks, what do I do?

The blink means the safety sensors near the floor are misaligned or dirty. Wipe both lenses, clear anything in the beam, and make sure both show steady lights. If it still won't close, the wiring or a sensor may need repair.

My door won't move and the opener just hums, why?

Often the trolley is on the manual release (red cord) or a drive gear is stripped. Re-engage the trolley by pulling the cord toward the door or running the opener. If it still hums, call us, it is usually an affordable gear fix.

Should I try to fix a broken spring myself?

No. Torsion springs hold enough tension to cause serious injury. This is genuinely a job for a pro with the right tools. Stop using the door and call us.

What lubricant should I use on my garage door?

A garage-door-specific silicone or lithium spray on the rollers, hinges, springs, and bearings. Never WD-40, it is a degreaser that dries parts out.

My door is loud, can I quiet it myself?

Often yes, tighten the hardware and lubricate the rollers, hinges, and bearings. If it stays loud, the rollers are likely worn; swapping them for nylon ones makes a big difference.

How do I test my garage door's safety reverse?

Place a roll of paper towels in the door's path and close it. The door should stop and reverse on contact. If it does not, the reverse needs adjustment, an important safety fix.

My remote stopped working, what should I try?

Start with a fresh battery. If that fails, reprogram the remote to the opener, or it may need replacing. We carry compatible remotes and keypads if needed.

My door came off the track, can I push it back?

Please don't, forcing an off-track door bends panels and tracks and can hurt you. Stop using it and call us; we get it back on safely, usually same-day.
